A car can make beach stops, shopping and dinner plans easier in Rarotonga. The useful question is which rental arrangement fits your stay: a few exploring days, a vehicle waiting at the airport, or collection near your accommodation.
This guide brings together nine rental companies identified through Cook Islands Tourism, the Cook Islands Airport Authority and operator websites. They are listed alphabetically, without a ranking. Contact each company for a current quote and written confirmation of your booking.

Compare the whole quote, not just the daily rate
Ask for the total price for your exact collection and return times, including delivery, airport fees, extra drivers, child seats and any minimum hire period. Check the deposit or card hold, insurance cover, excess, fuel policy, cancellation terms and roadside-help number. A lower daily rate can work out differently once the rest of the booking is included.
Arrange your arrival before you fly
Give the company your flight number and arrival time. Ask where you will meet, what happens if the flight is delayed and whether an after-hours collection has an extra charge. Confirm the return procedure too, especially for early departures. Keep the written instructions somewhere you can reach without mobile data.
Choose a vehicle for passengers and luggage
Tell the company how many adults and children are travelling, how many suitcases you have and whether you need child seats. Ask the provider to confirm the vehicle category and seating rather than relying on a stock photograph. Cook Islands Tourism recommends arranging child seats ahead of time because availability on arrival is not guaranteed.
You might only need a car for part of your stay
Compare a shorter hire with a full-stay booking, plus any transfers you would still need. Walking, the island bus and pre-arranged transfers may suit some days. Start with our transport guide.
Before paying, confirm the provider’s current driver, licence and insurance requirements directly. At collection, photograph the vehicle’s condition, check the fuel level and record the return time.
